とは、「デスメタルとメタルコアがクロスオーバーする中で誕生し定着したエクストリーム・メタルのサブジャンルのひとつ」というのが一般的な認識である。ただ、「デスメタルとメタルコアの融合」という言葉だけでは表す事が出来ないほど、現在ではそのスタイルは変化してきている。メタルコアの発展に伴って取り入れられきた様々なアイデアが、デスコアという狭きサブジャンルの個性として、バンドサウンドのオリジナリティになっていった。\nデスコアという言葉は、1986年にドイツで結成されたデスメタル\/グラインドコアバンド、Bloodの3rd Demo Tapeのタイトルとして、1986年11月にメタル・シーンに誕生した。そのサウンドはノイズまみれのデスメタルとグラインドコアのクロスオーバーとは程遠い内容で、現在のデスコアのルーツとは言えない。同年、「DEATHCORE」というバンド名を冠したバンドがドイツで誕生。彼らは1987年にファースト・デモテープ『Revenge of the Unborn」』を発表し、1990年にNuclear Blastからデビューアルバム『Spontaneous Underground』を発表し、「デスメタル+グラインドコア=デスコア」をシーンに打ち出した。このバンドも1994年にセカンド・アルバム『Monobrow』を発表し消滅してしまった為、デスメタルとグラインドコアのクロスオーバーとしての「デスコア」は定着しなかった。\nデスコアという言葉が再び使われるようになったのは、90年代後期の事である。ビートダウン・ハードコアやビーガン\/ストレートエッジ・ハードコア・シーンのバンドがしばしばデスメタルグルーヴを取り入れたサウンドを打ち出し、デスコアという呼称で表現していた。97年にはベルギーのハードコアバンドDeformityがEP『Misanthrope』でデスメタルとビートダウン・ハードコアを見事に融合させ、翌年にはテキサス出身のデスメタル・バンド、Embodymentがアルバム『Embrace Tuesdayがアメリカ全土を中心に巨大なファンベースを作り出すと、iwrestledabearonce、Dr.Acula、Dance Club Massacreといった、よりエクストリームなカオティック・サウンドをプレイするバンドが増殖していった。\nBring Me the Horizonを中心に、ヨーロッパのデスコア・シーンも賑わいだしていた。War from a Harlots Mouth、Eternal Lord、Annotations of an Autopsyなど、高いテクニックとセンスを持つバンドがひしめき合った。\nヨーロッパ以上に、オーストラリアでのデスコア人気は盛り上がっていった。2000年代後半にかけて、The Red Shore、Thy Art is Murder、Make Them Sufferらが誕生し、I Killed the Prom Queenが築いたオージーメタルコア・シーンを中心に大きな盛り上がりを見せた。\n2005年以降、デスメタルとメタルコアのピュアブレンドとして誕生したデスコア・サウンドも変化しつつあった。Oceano、I Declare War、Emmure、Attila、Chelsea
